Peer chats are a conversation with a friendly, non-judgemental person for you to talk to on a number of subjects, and for a range of different reasons. I provide a safe space for you to discuss your thoughts, questions, concerns and experiences, and you lead the direction of the conversation. Peer chats are not therapy.
If you would like to book a session, please email me on firstname.lastname@example.org
Who Are These Sessions For?
These peer sessions are for anyone who feels they would benefit from talking with someone outside of their circle of friends and family, usually for personal reasons, however I am also happy to discuss my experiences with someone wanting to learn more in order to support a friend or family member. If you are looking for inclusivity training for a workplace, or as a self employed person, please contact me directly to discuss my rates for this.
Currently I only accept bookings for chats with people aged 18 and over, however if you are a parent who would like to book a session in for your child/teenager, please contact me to discuss this. I recommend you read my “What Makes Me Different” page before contacting me to find out a little more about me to see if you feel we have similar ethics and ideals.
Who Am I?
I am a queer, neurodivergent, self employed creative and alternative educator with a unique range of experiences, as we all are. I approach everything I do with the same intersectional ethics. I understand that whilst talking about one thing, there may be other things which impact that. You are free to take the conversation in any direction you choose – if that is completely off the original path, that is fine.
I have experience of working with people of all ages in a variety of different settings. I have ADHD (combined type) and chronic pain. I do regular training and research across a range of topics and I also attend therapy sessions for myself. I am passionate about inspecting the world around me, and questioning ingrained patterns in both humans and society which harm people to find a better way to be, for myself and others.
How It Works and Prices
I primarily run these sessions via Zoom video calls. I prefer to do video calls: as someone with ADHD, being able to see you helps me, however I am also more than happy to do just voice sessions if you would prefer. If for accessibility you require written based communication, please state your requirements when emailing, and I will let you know if I am able to provide this at that time. My email address is email@example.com
One hour peer sessions are currently £45 an hour with a no questions asked sliding scale to £35 as the lowest for anyone who needs it.
Topics for Chats
Below are some of the topics I am able to discuss. All of these are based on my personal experiences, knowledge, and training/research. Topics listed below are a small example of things I am able to discuss, not a full list. If you feel you would like to talk with me about something not on this list, please get in touch.
- LGBTQIA+ issues, including:
- Personal exploration around your own sexuality or gender
- General knowledge and understanding of the whole spectrum of identities that fall under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella
- Current issues
- Fears around coming out, or being outed
- Relationship styles/structures, including:
- Communicating better with people (friends, partners, family, co-workers)
- Ethical non-monogamy as an umbrella term, and some of the more specific labels (particularly polyamory terms, and relationship anarchy)
- Love languages
- Exploring specific relationships you would like some support/guidance on
- Body image, including:
- My experiences of embracing/loving my body
- Strategies to help you work on your body image
- The expectations of body image for different genders
- Intersectionality, including:
- What intersectionality is and why it’s important
- How to be a better ally for all marginalised groups of people, as far as my experiences and current learning/understanding is able to give. I am passionate about raising up the voices of people who are marginalised, and will always point you to resources created by people from these communities.
- Personal growth
- Exploring what you want from life outside of society’s expected norms
- ADHD, including:
- What it is (and isn’t) and my experiences of it
- How it intersects with things like anxiety, depression and autism
- Help with coping mechanisms for certain things
- A place to vent, and not feel alone
- Systemic issues, including:
- Unconscious bias in ourselves
- The gender binary in society
Everything we talk about is confidential. The only time I will break this confidentiality is if I feel your life, or someone else’s life in danger. In this case I will always work with you first to find a solution, and will not do anything that would put you in harms way – physically or mentally.
Anything I say in our sessions comes from my own personal experiences, research and understanding of the topics we discuss. Occasionally I may not have answers for you. If this happens, I will follow up with you after doing additional research to help provide the support you need at that time.
Before your session I will ask you for a rough overview of what you would like to discuss. If you’re not totally sure, that’s okay! I will send you a link for a Zoom call meeting at the time you have booked. You can choose to have your camera on or off. During the session, the time is yours to lead the conversation where you would like to. After our session you will have the opportunity to book another session. There is no requirement for you to do so.
Terms and Conditions
We may be discussing sensitive topics during these sessions, and I may be sharing some personal experiences of mine with you, as you may be with me. This is a safe space and I will respect your experiences, as I ask you to respect mine.
Whilst I am happy to discuss most things, any inappropriate comments will not be tolerated, and you will be charged and additional £80 fee. (Inappropriate comments includes, but is not limited to: harassment, disrespect or abuse.)
Language use is not censored in terms of swear words, however if you use ableist or derogatory language towards a group of people (eg: racist or homo/transphobic language) I will make you aware of it and ask you adjust your use of that word/words accordingly. Equally, if there is any language you would rather I didn’t use (including swearing), please let me know before our session, or if I say something during the session you do not like, please tell me.
This is a conversation between peers. I am not a therapist, and I’m not here to fix your problems. We’re having a casual conversation between two humans, and there are no right or wrong questions or answers.
Throughout our conversation I will be asking you questions, as well as providing personal insights, experiences and resources. If there is anything you don’t want to talk about, please let me know and we will redirect the conversation. I will take no offence.
You know your life and experiences better than I do. If I make any suggestions that don’t apply to you, please just say! I’m here to help you find ideas and suggestions that are useful and relevant to you, not to tell you what to do.
When referring to other people in your life, please let me know their name, how you describe your connection with them, and their pronouns so I know how to refer to them as well.
I may make notes as we are talking. This is to help me remember what has been said, and so as to not interrupt you mid-train of thought. These notes will be written on a local file only (not on a cloud system) and deleted after our session. If you would like copies of the notes, please let me know at the beginning of your session, and I will ensure they are slightly more detailed that what I would require for just responding to you. Once I have sent them to you, I will delete them from my records, unless otherwise requested.
